Looks like things are getting pretty messy for Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte and his wife Kayla Reid as they battle it out in their divorce — and now we’re learning they’re swimming in nearly $270,000 of debt. Yep, that includes about $100,000 owed to the IRS from unpaid taxes in 2021 and 2022. Oof.
Kayla Reid files divorce against Ryan Lochte, demands majority custody of their children
The divorce filing from Kayla, who you might know as a former Playboy playmate, says their marriage is “irretrievably broken.” She’s also asking for majority custody of their three kids — Caiden, Liv, and baby Georgia. But Ryan isn’t going quietly. In his response, he’s denying that Kayla should have sole parental responsibility and pushing back on her claims about finances and child care.
To add fuel to the fire, Ryan moved out of their $548,000 Gainesville home earlier this year and is now renting a different place. Meanwhile, the couple is also tangled up in disputes over money — Kayla wants financial help for education and retraining to get back on her feet, but Ryan’s pushing back on that, too.
On top of all this, they’re dealing with some serious medical bills. Shands Teaching Hospital slapped them with liens totaling over $167,000 related to Ryan’s care.
And if that wasn’t enough stress, Ryan was also found guilty of careless driving after a 2023 car accident involving a garbage truck. He had to pay a fine and attend driving school — definitely not the kind of headlines anyone wants during a divorce.
So yeah, it’s a lot going on behind the scenes as Ryan and Kayla navigate this tough chapter — and the financial fallout is just adding to the drama.
According to reports, the 33-year-old model filed for divorce on March 26. In an Instagram video, Ryan took a moment to thank those who reached out after the shocking news broke.
He says that he is now focused on leaving the drama and getting to a better place. The former couple got married in 2018.
