In a move that stunned the world, President Donald Trump announced Saturday night that he had ordered massive U.S. airstrikes on three of Iran’s major nuclear facilities. The late-night operation, which reportedly used a dozen 30,000-pound “bunker buster” bombs and 30 Tomahawk missiles, hit Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan—key sites in Iran’s nuclear program.
Speaking from the White House just after 10 p.m., Trump wasted no time in calling the mission a win. “Tonight I can report to the world that the strikes were a spectacular military success,” he said, flanked by Vice President J.D. Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.
But he didn’t stop there. Trump issued a blunt warning to Tehran: make peace or face even more destructive consequences. “Iran, the bully of the Middle East, must now make peace. If they do not, future attacks will be far greater and a lot easier,” he warned.
This all comes just nine days after Israel began its own strikes on Iran. Trump says the U.S. and Israel worked as “a team like perhaps no team has ever worked before,” praising Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who later called the strikes “bold” and “history-changing.”
Iran Retaliates After Trump’s Devastating Nuclear Facility Strikes
Of course, Iran didn’t take the attack lightly. The Islamic Republic quickly launched missiles toward Israel in response, with explosions reported over Tel Aviv. Iran’s foreign minister slammed the U.S. for what he called a “grave violation” of international law, and warned that Iran would defend its people “by any means necessary.”
Trump’s decision to strike could also shake things up politically back home. After all, the president built his campaign partly on the promise of avoiding endless wars and preventing World War III. Some critics are already pointing out the contradiction. Still, many top Republicans, including House Speaker Mike Johnson, cheered the move as “decisive.”
Meanwhile, the military feat itself was nothing short of jaw-dropping. B-2 stealth bombers flew non-stop for 37 hours from Missouri to carry out the mission, with multiple in-air refuelings. And while the Fordow site took a heavy hit, Iranian officials are already downplaying the damage, insisting some facilities were evacuated and noting, “you can’t bomb knowledge.”
Trump: More Iran Airstrikes Coming If Regime Doesn’t Make Peace
The U.S. now faces the reality of heightened tensions in the Middle East. With around 40,000 American troops stationed in the region, the Pentagon is bracing for possible retaliation from Iran’s network of allies and proxy groups, including the Houthis in Yemen, Hezbollah in Lebanon, and Hamas in Gaza.
As Trump put it during his four-minute speech: “There will either be peace, or there will be tragedy for Iran far greater than we have witnessed over the last eight days.”
For now, the world watches and waits.
