Who is Bradford James Gille? It was a typical Saturday afternoon in Traverse City, Michigan. People were doing their weekend shopping at Walmart—nothing out of the ordinary. But within minutes, that normal scene turned into chaos.

Traverse City Walmart Horror: 11 Stabbed, Community in Shock

Authorities say 42-year-old Bradford James Gille walked into the store and began randomly stabbing shoppers with a pocket knife. Eleven people were hurt, ranging in age from 21 to 84. One of the victims was a Walmart employee.

Local prosecutors aren’t just treating this as an assault. Gille is being charged with terrorism. Why? Officials believe he intended to terrorize the entire community—to make people feel unsafe even while doing something as basic as shopping for groceries.

What’s even more chilling is how random and brutal it all was. There was no warning, no motive publicly known yet. It was just a quiet afternoon… and then chaos.

But here’s where the story takes a powerful turn. Several brave shoppers stepped up in a big way. After the attack, Gille tried to get away, but a group of quick-thinking bystanders confronted and surrounded him in the parking lot. One of them even lost his shoes in the rush to help and stood barefoot, yelling at the attacker to drop his weapon.

“Drop the knife! Get on the ground!” they shouted.

Eventually, the group managed to tackle Gille and hold him down until police arrived, which, by the way, was in just three minutes from the first 911 call. From the time the call came in to the time Gille was in custody? Only one minute. That’s a response time Sheriff Mike Shea called “remarkable,” and likely a big reason more people weren’t hurt.

Thankfully, most of the victims are recovering. According to Munson Medical Center, one has already been released, two are in serious condition, and the rest are stable.

The story has sparked reactions from all corners of the world. Walmart released a statement condemning the violence and expressing gratitude to first responders. The FBI is involved, offering support, and Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer shared her thoughts and prayers with those affected.

Traverse City is known for community events and scenic attractions rather than incidents of this nature. The community is now addressing the event’s impact.

As the investigation continues and the store remains temporarily closed, it is evident that bystanders assisted during the incident, and the community is responding collectively.

Bradford James Gille, who is currently at the Grand Traverse County Jail, has self-published two books on Amazon as a born-again Christian. Authorities believe that his arraignment will take place on Monday and Tuesday.
