Michelle Obama is opening up about motherhood, and let’s just say — she has no regrets about not having a boy.
On the latest episode of her IMO podcast, the former First Lady got real (and funny) about why she’s perfectly happy raising just daughters.
Michelle Obama Says No to Baby Barack: Why She’s Glad She Didn’t Have a Son
“You should’ve thrown a boy in the mix,” joked radio host Angie Martinez during the convo, which also featured Michelle’s brother, Craig Robinson. But Michelle didn’t miss a beat: “I’m so glad I didn’t have a boy,” she said with a laugh. Why? “Because he would’ve been a Barack Obama.”
Yep — Michelle joked that if she had a son, he would’ve been a mini version of her husband, former President Barack Obama. “Baby Barack — it would’ve been amazing!” Angie chimed in. Michelle’s response? “Ooh, no, I would’ve felt for him.”
The trio was diving into some deeper stuff too, chatting about society’s expectations around masculinity and how tough it can be to raise boys in today’s world. But Michelle kept it light, adding that she’s gotten plenty of boy energy from her nephews. “She just borrowed our boys,” Craig said, and Michelle agreed: “I got plenty.”
Married since 1992, the Obamas are parents to two daughters — Malia, 26, and Sasha, 24 — and Michelle says she’s loved every step of the journey. “I loved them when they were babies, when they were walking and talking… even the teenage years in the White House,” she said. Now, watching them grow into strong, independent women who still call their mom for advice? “It’s the best,” Michelle said. No sons, no problem.
Michelle‘s candor on certain topics has opened the door to a lot of rumors about her marriage to the retired Democratic politician.
She has done a decent job denying some of the most out-of-this-world reports. However, they keep coming back of statements like the one she just made.
